The Decentralized Administration of Crete approved the environmental conditions for the creation of a new five-star hotel unit in Elounda, at the location “Arigianes or Limni” of the Municipality of Agios Nikolaos. The relevant Decision on the Approval of Environmental Conditions was issued on June 3, 2026 by the General Directorate of Spatial Planning, Environmental and Agricultural Policy of the Decentralized Administration of Crete, following the completion of the consultation process and the positive opinion of the competent services and the Regional Environmental Licensing Council (PESPA).
The investment, implemented by RETHYMNIOTIKI TOUBLOPOIIA S.A., concerns a large tourist complex of 374 beds on an area of ​​over 71 acres, with 159 rooms in 31 buildings and comprehensive hospitality, catering, wellness and conference facilities.
The project envisages gentle architecture with cave-like buildings to limit visual disturbance, as well as important infrastructure such as a biological treatment plant with water reuse, a desalination plant to meet water needs, and an underground passage for safe traffic.
Sustainability is also emphasized, with photovoltaics, electric vehicle charging stations and extensive green spaces with Mediterranean vegetation. With the approval of the environmental conditions, the project moves to the next stage of licensing and implementation.
